CalArts Portfolio- Sample 1
Here's some of the better drawings from my CalArts Portfolio. I don't know what it was that they liked about my portfolio yet, so I'll just post a bunch and maybe some people can get ideas. Mario Furmanczyk, a Senior at CIA who runs animatedbuzz.com (Really helpful site) said they like to see different styles, which makes sense, cause as an animator you'll have to draw all kinds for different gigs. Unfortunately I think he took down his Calarts Portfolio tutorial, but there are plenty of other CalArts kids who can give you advice on getting in. Without finding Mario's site, I wouldn't have had a clue about what they wanted. Just don't try to do exquisitely detailed stuff for your whole portfolio, give them some loose, impressionistic work as well. This could all be bullshit, so do what you will with it. That's just what all thes people seem to be saying.
Here's me trying to do some
animated figure drawing.
The woman at Portfolio day enjoyed this one of the big guy. I think drawing interesting subject matter can make a difference, even if the person looking at it doesn't realize that's why they like it.
The "street urchin" as my figure drawing teacher referred to him.

In the beginning...
I'll be posting work here for anybody who's into cartoons/animation. I'm going to Calarts for Character Animation in the fall, so there will be plenty more on the way. Enjoy!
